Microtransit is a smaller transit bus that uses on-demand technology to pick up riders to take them to and from a destination. You will be able to schedule a trip through the call center or utilizing an app. This new service is expected to launch beginning in January 2025 and will replace some local fixed routes in a phased approach over the next few years.
Check out the video below showing how microtransit will be utilized in the Yuba-Sutter areas.
Phase 1 is planned for January 2025 and includes the following service improvements:
o Launch of our new on-demand microtransit service in and around Yuba City to replace Routes 2 and 5.
o Route 1 in Yuba City will be streamlined to speed up cross-town travel times.
o All the remaining local fixed routes and microtransit services will run up until 8 p.m. on weekdays.
o Since all local services will be running later on weekdays, the evening general-public Dial-A-Ride will be discontinued.
Yes, the implementation of the microtransit services will replace Routes 2 and 5 in Yuba City. At the same time, Route 1 will be streamlined and Routes 1, 3, 4, and 6 will have extended hours to 8 p.m. on weekdays.
Phase 1 will launch in Yuba City in January 2025.
No. You will be able to schedule a trip utilizing the app on your phone or a desktop computer, or by calling the dispatch center.
If you are scheduling a microtransit ride through the app or call center, you will be informed of possible pick-up and drop-off locations. In most cases, it will be closer than the nearest bus stop. Dial-A-Ride will still be available for those that need door-to-door service.
Like Uber or Lyft, the new microtransit is designed to be available on-demand without advanced reservation. When you request a ride in the app or by phone, you’ll be provided with real-time vehicle availability and your choice of pickup times, likely within 15-20 minutes. Sometime after the initial launch, subscription microtransit trips may be made available to frequent riders subject to vehicle capacity.
New fare charges will be effective on or after January 1, 2025. The new fares will support the continuation of our current forms of transit along with the microtransit that provides more efficient trips and shorter wait times. These increased fares will still be subsidized with local grant funds as long as they are available to keep monthly pass prices very affordable.
Yes. Dial-A-Ride will still be available while the fixed routes are running up until 8:00 p.m. However, when Phase 1 launches, the evening general-public Dial-A-Ride service will be discontinued.
